Sweet Chestnut Honey
In the spring, when the sun warms the mountain ridges in the Piedmont region at the foot of the Alps, the sweet chestnut trees begin to bloom. The trees thrive in this climate and grow almost exclusively in Mediterranean mountain regions. From the nectar of the unassuming flower catkins and the honeydew on the branches and needles of the plants, the bees produce a robust, distinctive honey. In addition to bees, over 100 other insect species pollinate the sweet chestnut, thereby contributing to the creation of this honey specialty. The aroma of sweet chestnut honey is reminiscent of the warm, subtly tart character of chestnuts.
